Caring for a loved one with a blood cancer

This is a preview of Laura Martire's story brought to you by The Globe and Mail.

Someone who really understands what you’re going through can make all the difference

Laura Martire thinks she would have benefited from talking to other caregivers who could relate to her experiences, back when she was caring for her father who passed away in 2016 at the age of 69.

Herself now a trained volunteer with the First Connection Peer Support Program at LLSC, Laura says the program offers caregivers a chance to get questions answered or “have somebody just listen” – including when mourning before the loss of a loved one, something known as “anticipatory grief.”
