Line Up for Change in access to cancer care
Christina Sit, lead of the advocacy and community strategic partnerships team at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, and a co-chair of the Cancer Action Now national alliance, spoke with the media at a "Line up for Change" demonstration at Queen's Park yesterday. She, other members of that alliance, and Ontarian survivors of cancer lined up in front of the buildings of the provincial government.
"We're here to tell the government that we want them to honour their commitment from two years ago [2022 budget] and consult with the public on what is a good plan," says Christina, referring to the government's promise for a renewed Cancer Action Plan.
"The system makes it so challenging for Ontarians to undergoing a cancer experience, from diagnosis to treatment... it's taking way too long between Health Canada approval of treatment to provincial listing [public funding] of cancer drugs," Christina adds.
The CityNews Toronto reporter also spoke with cancer survivors and advocates from other cancer support organizations in Ontario urging for better, faster access to cancer care.
